Description

Eight looks, and you pick one before you press. Black and white. Warm. Cool. Five more. The dial is on top, you turn it with a thumb, and the look is baked into the shot — not added afterwards by an app that everyone else is using too.

Keepgrain looks like a disposable camera and handles like one. No screen on the back, one button, a fixed lens and a flash. You point, you press, and you go back to what you were doing.

The photos come out the way photos used to come out. Not sharper than life, not corrected, not posed twice because the first one wasn't right. They look like something happened, which is the part a phone quietly takes away.

The difference with a disposable is what happens after. No roll to buy, no lab to pay, no two-week wait. Your shots sit on the memory card until you feel like looking at them — and when you do, you see them all at once.

A real 32 GB card is already in it. Nothing else to buy before your first photo.

Why no screen

You take the photo, and you go back to the evening

Nothing to check

No screen on the back, so no photo to check, retake or delete. You press, and you go back to what you were doing.

The surprise in the evening

You find the photos in the evening, all at once, the way a roll used to come back from the lab: you had forgotten half of them.

One button, one dial

No menu, no app to install. You choose the look on the dial before the shot, and there is nothing else to set.

The look is chosen on the dial

The look is chosen on the dial

An eight-position dial on top of the camera. You turn it before the shot, and that is the whole setup. Nothing to edit afterwards.

Turned a normal night

We took this to a friend's rooftop thing in June and I honestly forgot I had it in my bag half the time. Got the photos onto my laptop the next morning and there are maybe four of them that I'd frame. Not because they're good photos. Because everyone looks like they're actually having the night, instead of waiting for me to finish taking the picture.

The dial is the point

Bought it for the no-screen thing and stayed for the dial. I keep it on the warm setting most of the time and switch to black and white when the light gets flat. Being able to decide the look before instead of scrolling through filters after is a completely different way of shooting.

Fine, but know what it is

It does what it says. It's also a plastic camera with a fixed lens and no way to see what you shot. If you go in expecting your phone in a retro shell you will be disappointed, and a lot of people clearly do. I like mine. I'm not sure I'd have paid full price twice.

It's so small. It lives in my coat pocket now.

Really good, one gripe

Love the thing. Photos come out great in daylight and the dial is genuinely fun to use. My only gripe is the viewfinder isn't quite where the lens is looking, so I keep cutting the tops of heads off until I got used to aiming slightly low. Small thing once you know.

Better than my old digicam

I had one of those 2000s point and shoots I bought used and it died on me twice, once in the middle of a trip. This one has been fine. The photos have that same slightly-off color I was chasing, and I'm not paying two hundred dollars for a twenty year old camera off eBay.

For people who overthink photos

If you're the person who takes eleven versions of the same picture and keeps none of them, this fixes that. There's no screen so there's no eleven versions. You get one. It's oddly freeing and I did not expect to like it as much as I do.

Indoors is rough

Daylight photos are lovely. Anything indoors without the flash comes out muddy, and with the flash everything close to me is very bright and everything behind is black. That's how these work, I know, but it's most of my life so it matters.

Wedding hit

We passed it around at our reception and let people just take whatever. The results are a mess in the best way. Half of them are blurry and I don't care, they're the ones we printed.

Card was actually 32

Small thing but I checked. Formatted it before the first use like I do with everything, and it came up the size it says on the box. I've been burned before on another camera where the "included" card was a quarter of what was advertised.

Wish the battery lasted

No complaints about the photos at all. I just wish it went longer between charges. I got through most of a day out and it gave up before the evening did. Bring the cable if you're out all day.

Photos look like memories

Hard to explain. They're not sharp, the colors are a bit off, and that's exactly what makes them feel like photos from a family album instead of content. My phone takes better pictures. This takes better memories.

No way to know it's full

Filled the card without realizing and kept pressing the button for what I now know was most of an afternoon. Nothing tells you. No light, no sound, nothing. On a camera with no screen that feels like something that should have been designed differently.

Took it to a festival

Two days, one charge, and it survived being in a bag with a water bottle. The flash is stronger than I expected for something this size. Only real note is that I wish I'd brought a spare card, not because it filled up but because I got paranoid about it.

Comparable, not the best

I've now tried three of these screenless cameras. This one is the nicest to hold and the dial is better than the others. Picture quality I'd call a tie. Whether it's worth the difference in price depends how much you care about the build.

No app, thank god

You plug it in and the photos are just there in a folder. No account, no sign-in, no app that wants my email. I did not realize how much I hated that until something didn't do it.

My favorite is fuzzy

Went through all eight modes over a weekend. The soft one is my favorite by a mile, it does something to skin tones that I can't reproduce on my phone no matter what I try. Black and white is genuinely good too. The two cool-toned ones I've barely touched.

Not for low light

I bought this for a trip that turned out to be mostly evenings and I got almost nothing usable out of it. Maybe five shots out of a whole weekend. That's on me for not reading properly, but I'd rather the page said it plainly than let me find out.

Bought it after an ad

I never buy anything from Instagram and I bought this from Instagram. Feels appropriate to admit that. It's the first one where the thing that showed up matched the thing in the video.

Learning curve, then great

Took me two or three sessions to stop pointing it wrong and to figure out when to use the flash. Once I got that, the photos got a lot better fast. Docking a star because nothing explains that up front, not because the camera is bad.

Good in daylight

Outdoors it's great. Indoors you need the flash on, full stop. Once I figured that out I stopped getting dark photos. Would recommend, just know that going in.

Sounds cheap

The noise it makes when you press it is a fake shutter sound and you can't turn it off. It ruined it for me. I get that it's supposed to be charming, it just makes a nice-looking object feel like a toy every single time you use it.

Second camera done right

This isn't replacing anything. It's the one I bring when I don't want to think about bringing a camera. It goes in a jacket pocket and it turns a regular Tuesday into something I look at later.

Your questions

What people ask before they order

I already have a phone that takes photos. Why this?

For the same reason people still buy disposables: the phone takes the evening, and its photos are smooth. This one has no screen, so you take the shot and find it later. The look comes from the fixed lens and the dial, not from a filter added afterwards.

Do the photos really look like film?

They have the character of it: a fixed 28 mm lens, an 8-megapixel sensor, a small flash, and eight looks on the dial. It is a digital camera, not a film one — there is no roll and no lab. What you get is the grain and the imperfection, without the bill.

How do I get my photos off it?

With the USB-C cable in the box. Plug it into a computer and copy the folder — no app, no account, nothing to install.

Is the 32 GB card really 32 GB?

Yes, and you can check the number printed on the packaging before you even open it. We say it plainly because this is the complaint that comes up most often about cameras of this kind: a card advertised as 32 GB that turns out to be a fraction of that. One honest detail: like every memory card sold, a 32 GB card shows about 29 GB once formatted. That is a difference in how it is counted, not a smaller card.

How many photos per charge, and how many on the card?

The 800 mAh battery recharges through the USB-C cable in the box. A full charge takes a couple of hours from a normal USB port.

Do I need an app or a subscription?

No. The looks are on the dial, the photos are on the card, and the transfer is a folder you copy. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to renew.

When will I get it?

Your order ships within 1–2 business days, and you get a tracking number the day it leaves. Estimated delivery is 5–10 business days after that. Those are carrier estimates, not guarantees — we commit to the day we hand it over.

What if I don't like it?

You have 60 days from delivery. Email us with your order number, one sentence is enough, and we send you a prepaid return label. No photo to send, no reason to give, no restocking fee.

Another question: contact@keepgrain.com, we answer within 24 business hours.
